Ingredients:
2 lbs ground beef
1 medium onion (finely chopped)
1 egg
½ cup breadcrumbs (or crushed crackers)
2 cloves garlic (minced)
1 tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 cups beef gravy (store-bought or homemade)
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. Make the patties:
In a large bowl, mix ground beef, onion, egg, breadcrumbs, garlic, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce.
Shape into oval patties (like hamburger steaks).
3. Brown the patties:
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat, sear patties for 2–3 minutes per side (they don’t need to cook through, just get color).
4. Assemble the bake:
Place browned patties in a greased 9×13 baking dish.
Pour beef gravy over the patties.
5. Bake:
Cover with foil and bake for 20–25 minutes.
6. Add cheese:
Remove foil, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top.
Return to oven uncovered for 5–10 minutes, until cheese is melted and bubbly.
7. Serve:
Best served with mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles to soak up that gravy.
